Committing to dates is any PM's worst nightmare. With things like scope creep, unforeseen circumstances, and constant market pivots changing the nature of a project, it's hard to keep those deadlines on track.
With Visor, you are able to visualize and plan dates for a project before committing anything to Jira. You can even create dates based on how you want the waterfall of the project to look and transfer those dates over to Jira in just a few clicks. Sound too good to be true? It's not. Here's how:
Step 1
Import the Jira project you'd like to plan into Visor using the normal project import process.
Step 2
Once your project has been imported, create custom fields for your Planned Start and Planned Due dates in Visor.
Step 3
Select the Gantt View from the bottom of your workbook. From there, in the configurator, select your "Planned Start Date" and "Planned Due Date" fields as your Plotted Data fields. This will allow you to edit these custom Visor fields instead of your Jira fields as you experiment with dates in the Gantt View.
Step 4
Outline the timeframe in which you want your project to be completed. By clicking on the bars in the Gantt View, you are able to open the Record Details Panel and choose a start date for your first task. Following the same process, you are able to select a due date for your last or final task.
Step 5
Plot the rest of your tasks based on your main start and end dates. We recommend plotting your larger tasks or epics first and then, using our nesting capabilities, outlining dates for child issues like Stories and Tasks within the timeframe of the parent issue.
Step 5
Return to the Table View and see all your newly plotted dates automatically populated in your Visor custom fields. From here, either click the first value and hold Shift + Down to select the specific values you'd liked to copy or use the Keyboard Shortcut CTRL(^) + Space to copy the entire column. You can then paste the data into your Jira Start and Due date fields.
Step 7
Once you're satisfied with your dates, click "Sync" to push your plotted dates back to Jira.
If you check your Jira project, you will see that all the dates you created in Visor custom fields and synced over are now present in Jira.
Need to make adjustments? Not a problem. Either adjust dates directly in Jira and bring them over the Visor on your next import, or adjust them in Visor using the same method outlined above and sync to update in Jira.
