Overview
Visor allows you to add and manage as many fields as you need. You can add fields from connected apps by using the import feature, or by manually adding them. You can also add custom Visor fields to enrich your data.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the various ways you can add and manage your fields.
Add fields
You just created a new workbook; so what’s next? The next step is to start adding your data. Let’s see all the ways you can add fields into Visor:
Automatic Jira field import during onboarding
During the onboarding flow, you’ll be asked to integrate and connect with Jira. If you proceed, Visor will magically import all the high-value fields you’ll likely need to use on a daily basis. No other steps needed!
Add Visor fields during onboarding
Whether you want to enrich the Jira Issues you’re about to import, or you want to start with Visor fields only - you’ll be prompted to optionally add them during the onboarding flow.
Visor will suggest various common fields you may use for quick selection. Choose as many (or as little) as you’d like.
Add connected fields from the Connections modal
If you chose to connect with an external app after onboarding, or you want to update the connected fields displayed from your connected apps, there’s an easy path for you.
Steps:
- Open the Connections menu
- Select the app you want to connect with (Jira has already been integrated within this example)
- Choose the fields you’d like to add to your workbook
- Proceed through the rest of the import steps
Add Visor fields from the “Add Field” modal
If you want to add Visor fields after onboarding, there’s an easy path for you.
Steps:
- Open the Add Field menu
- Select the type of field you want to add
- Add a Field Name to quickly identify this field
- Optionally add choices to the field (only when adding a Dropdown field)
- Save the new field
This feature is available in the table view and in the grid section of the Gantt view.
Add fields from the Record Details panel
If you want to add Visor fields from the canvas section of the Gantt view, or from the timeline view, there’s an easy path for you.
Steps:
- Open the Record Details menu by clicking on any record bar within the canvas
- Click on Add Field to open up its menu
- Select the type of field you want to add
- Add a Field Name to quickly identify this field
- Optionally add choices to the field (only when adding a Dropdown field)
- Save the new field
Insert fields in grids
If you want to insert new Visor fields from the table view, or the grid section of the Gantt view, there’s an easy path for you.
Steps:
- Open a column header menu
- Click on Insert Left or Insert Right
- Select the type of field you want to add
- Add a Field Name to quickly identify this field
- Optionally add choices to the field (only when adding a Dropdown field)
- Save the new field
Manage fields
You’ve added all the fields you need to effectively manage your projects and team. Now what? You’ll want to organize your data and make sure that you can execute quickly, and communicate the state of your organization’s progress with your team and stakeholders.
Let’s see all the ways you can manage fields in Visor:
Hide & show fields
You’ve added all the fields you care about - fantastic! You probably have a mix of fields for project management in Jira, strategy-focused fields around OKRs, maybe some fields for associated feedback tickets, and some other data around enriching your data.
Not every workflow requires seeing your entire dataset. Sometimes, you may want to only focus on project management, and only see fields associated with your managed Jira Issues. Or perhaps you’re about to share progress updates with leadership and just want to see Epics and OKRs. Well, there’s an easy way to hide (or show) fields that help shape the right story for your audience (you included).
Steps to hide fields:
- Open a column header menu for the field you want to hide
- Click on Hide Field (this view only)
Steps to show fields:
- Navigate to View Settings
- Click on Lanes displayed
- Select the fields you want to display in the view
Delete fields
You may find at times that you no longer need a particular field in Visor. This may be due to importing irrelevant fields, or after realizing that a previously used field is no longer useful to you (or your team). Let’s take a look at how to delete a field:
Steps:
- Open a column header menu for the field you want to delete
- Click on Delete Field (all views)
Move to “primary label”
What the heck is a “primary label”? Great question! A primary label is a label used to refer to records in various views. While it may seem less important in the Table view (it’s still critical there too), the primary label is what determines how record bars look in Gantt and Timeline canvas sections. In the Table view, the primary label also plays an important role when you start using the Parent field in conjunction with nested records, as the primary label is used to identify parent records.
Let’s take a look at how the primary label works:
Steps to set a non-primary label field as the primary label field:
- Open a column header menu for the field you want to set as the primary label
- Click on Move to Primary Label
Steps to replace the current primary label field with a different one:
- Open a column header menu for the primary label field
- Click on Change Primary label
- Select a different field to replace the current one as the primary label
Rename field
Super organized users tend to apply labels to their fields to more easily and quickly scan their data. If you’re looking to rename the field, look no further:
Steps
- Open a column header menu for the field you want to rename
- Click on Rename Field
Protect field
There may be points within your workflow where you might want to protect a field. What this means is that you want to preclude anyone (including yourself) from modifying values in any of the cells within the protected field. Let’s take a look at how this is done:

- Open a column header menu for the field you want to protect
- Click on Protect Field
The same steps can be taken to unprotect a field that is currently protected.
This feature is typically used when:
- there are multiple people working within the same workbook folder
- you are moving record bars in the Timeline canvas and you want to preserve the dates
