Creating a roadmap using Jira data that you can share with your team is as easy as a few clicks using Visor. In this article, we’ll review how to import data, create and customize your roadmap, and share it with your team. Let’s get started!
- Importing your Jira Data
- Creating your Roadmap
- Creating a Gantt View
- Sharing your Roadmap
Importing your Jira Data
Start by logging in and creating a new Workbook by clicking “+ New Workbook” in the upper right corner of your Visor homepage.
You will be prompted by a blue pop-up window. From here, select “Include Jira Data”.
Once you’ve authorized your account, Visor will prompt you to add Jira fields to your created Workbook. Select the project you wish to roadmap. From here, you can customize what you import, including:
- Issue type
- Status
- Created Date
After you’ve selected which data you’d like to import, click “Continue” in the bottom left corner of the pop-up window. You’ll be shown the list of issues that match your import criteria. At this point, you can edit your filters or proceed. You can also select to keep your current Jira nesting options or ignore them. Select “Import Jira issues”.
Creating your Roadmap
After your data has been imported, you can begin to customize your fields. Visor will start you off with a few fields, but all fields can be added or removed after creation.
Issues will automatically import into the Table View. From here, you can create a Gantt View or a Timeline View. These views will work best if you have Start Dates assigned to all tasks. We recommend using the Gantt View for your roadmap.
Creating a Gantt View
To create a Gantt View, click the Gantt View tab at the bottom of your workbook. From here, you can customize your data view. Make sure to double-check that all your desired objects are plotted by keeping an eye on the blue objects plotted tracker at the bottom of the pop-up screen.
Once you’ve created your Gantt view and customized it with the information you desire, you’re ready to send it to your team!
Sharing your Roadmap
Sharing your Roadmap with your team can be done by clicking the “Share” button in the upper right-hand corner of your Workbook OR clicking “File” > “Share”.
From here, enter the email addresses of the team members you’d like to share your Workbook with. Once you’ve entered an email address, you can choose from four permission levels to control what type of access the recipient will have:
- View - user can view Workbook and comments, but cannot add or edit any comments or data
- Comment - user can view Workbook and add comments but cannot edit any data
- Edit - user can view Workbook and add or edit comments and data
- Owner - user can edit Workbook and its user permissions
You can also customize viewing permissions in bulk at the bottom of the pop-up window. This will assign the same permission level to all invited users as well as whether or not users need a specific invite to view, comment on, or edit the Workbook. User access can be removed or edited at any time by the Workbook owners.
Click “Share” and you’re all set!
