Do Milestones Sync Back to Jira or Asana?
How Milestones Work in Visor:
What is a milestone?
A milestone is a marker of a key event in your project. Milestones can help your team stay aligned around launch dates, testing deadlines, ends of Sprints, and much more.
How do milestones appear in Visor?
What fields does a milestone need to display?
In Visor, a milestone is set based on the "End Date Field" of your record, which you can set up in the Gantt configurator (see below).
Fields that you can plot as Milestones:
- Date or Date/Time Custom Fields (made in Visor)
- Imported Jira or Asana Date Fields
.
How to Create a Milestone in Visor:
A Milestone can be created from any existing record, whether it is a imported Jira field or a Custom Field created in Visor.
Step 1: Create a Gantt View
To get started with Milestones, first create a Gantt View.
In step 1 of the Gantt configurator, choose which date field you want to plot as your "Milestone" and select that field in the "End Date Field" dropdown. This date field must already be in your dataset.
Step 2: Create your Milestones using the "Display As" Visor custom field
Once you've set up your Gantt chart, the rest is easy.
To change a record from a Bar to a Milestone, simply select "Milestone" from the "Display As" field from the grid view of your Gantt chart. You can also convert a Bar to a Milestone by right-clicking on the Bar and selecting "Display as Gantt milestone."
Step 3: Share your view with others
Now that you have your Milestones clearly defined, you're ready to share your view with your stakeholders! For more information on sharing, check out this help article.
Milestone FAQs
Can I create a Milestone from the Table View?
Yes! There are two ways to accomplish this:
- Once you've created your first Milestone in the Gantt View, you'll see a new field show up in your Table View with the default name "Display As." Once this field is present, you can change records from Bars to Milestones (or Milestones to Bars) directly from the Table View. The way the record is displayed on the Table View will not change based on whether it is a Bar or a Milestone.
- You can also create a Milestone from the Record Menu. First, right-click on the "rank" or number to the left of the record. From there, you can select "Display as Gantt milestone."
Can I create a Milestone from the Timeline View?
Yes. If you'd like to change a record from a Bar to a Milestone from the Timeline View, click on the record Bar and then navigate to the "Display As" field in the Record Details Panel and switch the record from either Bar to Milestone OR Milestone to Bar. Please note that Milestones on the Timeline View will display differently than on the Gantt View.
Do Milestones Sync Back to Jira or Asana?
For Jira:
Since the delineation between a Bar and a Milestone lives on a Visor custom field, selecting a record as Milestone will not change anything in your connected application. The "Milestone" selection will only live in your Visor workbook as Visor data.
You can always create records that don’t sync back to Jira or Asana if you don’t fill in the Project/Issue Type fields. Then you can create milestones that don’t have to be sent to Jira and mess up your data there.
For Asana:
You can create milestones in Visor that will display in Asana. You’ll use the “Display As” field to do so.
You can toggle back and forth between "bar" (for displaying tasks) or "milestone" (for displaying milestones). When you select a task as a milestone, this information will sync back to Asana when you perform a two-way sync (which pushes data back to Asana).
