About Filters
Focus only on the data you want to see by hiding the data you don't. Filtering helps you show only the most noteworthy and relevant data to your stakeholders and hide the rest.
Filtering works for fields you import from Jira, Salesforce, or Asana and Visor custom fields. You can combine numerous filters.
Visor allows you to filter by:
- dropdown field choices
- number & date fields
- words contained in a field
How to Access Filters
Simply find the Filter area above the data in your view. You can find filtering in the same space in all views except Dashboard view. (See section below about accessing the filters in Dashboard views.)
You can always hit the "Add a filter" button to select additional filters.
Filters appear in this location for Table, Gantt chart, Timeline, and Board / Kanban views:
Keeping Tabs on Your Filters
Once you apply the filters, you can quickly see how many filters your view has.
If there are numerous filters, Visor will show you how many. If only one filter is applied, it will tell you which one.
Applying Filters in Dashboard View
Because Dashboard view has numerous reports (e.g., pie chart, bar chart, etc), you must apply the filters you want to each report. This looks a little different in each Dashboard report. Filters in reporting help you narrow down to the specific records you want to summarize. For example, in the Percent report you can subset the records you want to count for both the numerator and denominator.
However, filters are easy to find in every report.
Example of a Jira Dashboard with dropdown field filters:
Combining Filters
You can combine filters to create a more custom view or search for data. You'll see a persistent "Add a filter" button that stays in the filter area, allowing you to keep adding more.
You can choose between "AND" and "OR" logic to intermix filters.
If you filter using "AND" logic, all the records that fit all the criteria in the filters will show up. In contrast, filtering by "OR" logic will give you more results because the records shown don't have to possess all the criteria you're filtering for (just any of the criteria you're searching for).
No matter what filter you select, there is always the option to "Add a filter" on top of the already applied filters.
Types of Filters:
Dropdown field choices
You can filter by dropdown field choices. When you are in a Dropdown field selector, you can click one each option you want or hit "Select all" or "Deselect all".
Number and date fields
Note: This filter type is only available in views created after our release on December 18th.
Both number and date fields allow you to search by certain criteria (e.g., "more than x" or "after certain date"). There are quite a few searches you can conduct with number and date fields. For example, by selecting your Due date field, you can see all of your overdue tasks by selecting the operator "is before today" in conjunction with another Status filter for tasks that are not done.
Word-based fields
Note: This filter type is only available in views created after our release on December 18th.
You can also filter by searching for fields that contain (or do not contain) certain words. The record for that field will appear when you conduct a search / filter like this.
Like the number and date field filters above, there are options for the type of search / filter you want to conduct:
Other filtering functionality
Note: This filter type is only available in views created after our release on December 18th.
You can also filter by more advanced fields such as your Parent hierarchy. For example, let's say you want to see only tasks related to a given initiative. You can filter by the Parent link field to include all records at or below the initiative of Launch Forms Product.
- "is at or anywhere below" shows records at the current level and all the way down the hierarchy chain (ex: from Initiative to Subtask)
- "is anywhere below" shows records only below the current level all the way down the hierarchy chain
- "is at or directly below" shows only records at the current level and one level down
- "is directly below" shows only records one level down
These filters can also be useful in the Dashboard View when you need to have extremely accurate reporting about a specific subset of your data.
Filtering label fields
Filters for fields that contain multiple choices, such as Jira Labels are an "or" type filter. When selecting multiple choices, the filter will display records that contain either choice, not both choices.
Other ways of managing filters
You can also apply and remove filters by right clicking on any filterable cell. This makes it quick and easy to get to the right data without needing to go to View Settings.
