What is a Gantt view?
Gantt charts are a staple in project management for good reason; they ensure that resources get allocated efficiently, help teams plan for contingencies, and provide clarity to stakeholders.
Visor's Gantt view works with custom data that you input, as well as data you’ve imported from Jira. In fact, you can even add custom data to help enrich your Jira data.
If you use Visor to create Jira Gantt charts or roadmaps, you can import nested data so that your Gantts represent your source of truth. Additionally, you can add filters to your view so that they show the exact information that your audience needs.
Lastly, you can add milestones and conditional formatting to your Gantt. By color coding your Gantt view with formatting and visualizing milestones, you make your data stand out and easier to understand.
Setting Up Your Gantt
To set up your Gantt, you must enter:
- Plotted Data: You will enter Start Date and End Date fields, which Visor will plot. These can be custom fields you input into Visor or imported Jira fields.
- Levels Shown: You select the levels you want your Gantt to display. This refers to nested data, which you can create in Visor or import from Jira (e.g., epics, tasks, subtasks).
- Timeframe: Select the timeframe you’d like your Gantt to follow (e.g., days of week).
You can enter all this info in Visor's very easy to use Gantt view configurator:
Add Formatting
Add conditional formatting to color-code your Gantt to make data stand out.
Easy way to add formatting: You will see a "Bar colors" section above your Gantt. Click it to add formatting to color-code your chart.
Additional way to add formatting: you can also click "Formatting" to add color to your milestones (more on that later) and to format fields that your Gantt might be displaying.
To format, you will see a "Bar colors" section above your Gantt. Click it to add formatting to color-code your chart.
Add Milestones
Adding milestones is easy. You just need to right-click a Gantt bar to switch it from a Bar to a milestone or vice-versa. You can also seamlessly drag and drop your milestones to reflect new end dates.
Drag & Drop Data Updating
To change the Start and End date fields of a record (but preserve the length of time between each date), simply drag the tile to a new place on your Gantt.
To change the Start date, drag the left side of the tile. To change the End date, drag the right side of the chip.
Any changes you make to records by dragging their tiles will be synced throughout the other views within the workbook. If the edited fields are connected fields, your edits can also be synced back to their connected app (e.g., Jira).
